Ooh! Another Story Idea (Sci Writ)
I would be incredibly interested in learning about the science of religion. There are a lot of historical and philosophical work done on religion, but how about scientific? I don't entirely know where that would end up going. I also think I may need to more closely define "science writing" before I begin. Does anyone know how "science-y" one has to get to be a science writer? Is historical or sociological research under that umbrella?
I don't think you need to be as analytical as you are thinking. With all the discussions that we have been having in class I think that what you need to focus on is simply getting the facts right. When we talked about bias, or the small amount of, remember that in this instance it's OK because it's that slight bias that is leading you to this thought process... I would also suggest that for the scientific portion of the writing, you are correct that history is important, as well as the sociological aspects, but what about any other groups that religions may support? For instance, contrary to popular belief, the LDS religion does not support any political candidate. However do certain religious groups support certain scientific fields? Do they give support, directly or indirectly, to any charities? This might be a great excuse to start calling various religious leaders in and around Bozeman for answers... If I can be of help with the LDS religion, I can certainly arrange people to talk to who can answer some of these questions. Let me know and great idea! I would love to see where this is going!
